Welcome to Little Gull Marina!

Despite the snowy weather on Friday, the ice is definitely trying to leave. The weather has been nothing special up here, just a lot of wind and rain.  This is helping to get the ice out, but there is still a fair bit out there.  We still have ice in about half of our bay, and it looks like there are some below freezing nights to come. It is still early for the ice to go out, with normal time being around the 20th of the month.  Launching boats will start next week hopefully, after the yard has a chance to dry up – its not easy lifting and moving boats when the machines just keep sinking into the soft ground.
The Easter Bunny’s arrival is on the horizon with just one day left before the long weekend! We hope everyone gets to enjoy whatever treats the Bunny may leave behind.  Happy Easter!

As you can see, the ice is still hanging on even with the warmer temperatures we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, and the lakes still have a long way to come up to spring levels.  It is still early in April and we never assume we have seen the last of winter until the end of the month as Mother Nature always seems to remind us not to turn the outdoor water on too soon!  With all of the rain coming down this week, the cottage roads are also getting very soft.

As you can see by the picture, the water is coming up which of course means the ice is too.  Combined with some heavy winds and rain, this is unfortunately causing some dock damage around the lakes. The forecast is showing signs of warmer weather ahead which means spring must be getting close! That being said, there is still a fair amount of ice to melt, and our best guess is things look to be heading in the normal direction for ice-out around April 20th. Hopefully Mother Nature will keep things drier for us than other years, and make getting boats out a touch easier with less mud.
As always, we require a minimum of two weeks notice to have your boats back on the dock, so make sure you let Gord know as soon as possible, as it is always first come, first served. If you don’t get a confirmation from the marina that we have received your request, it means we didn’t get it so please try again.  Gord has stocked the shelves with lots of new toys and towables, so be sure to stop by and pick something out for the new season ahead.  Any dock requirements can also be taken care of and are booking up quickly.
Be careful as you make plans to head up to cottage country over the coming weeks as the roads are starting to soften but still have some icy patches and snow.
