May is starting off on a better note than April did!  It’s been a gorgeous day, the warmest we’ve seen yet this year, and some good news came from Premier Ford this afternoon.  Beginning on Monday, marinas are allowed to begin preparing for the upcoming boating season, provided that we follow proper health and safety guidelines. However there is a big BUT that is still going to present significant challenges for marinas like ours where most boats are not docked permanently at the marina, but rather spend the summer on your docks. One of the stipulations is that boats “must be secured to a dock in the marina until public access is allowed.” This means that although we will be getting boats ready, we cannot deliver, nor allow pickup, of boats until further notice.  We understand that this is likely very frustrating for many of you, and we know that our method of delivering boats to you is a contactless one, but we must work within the parameters we are given. We hope that they are amended soon, respect that it would be very difficult for our leaders to make policies that take all scenarios into consideration, and know that they are doing everything they can to help get things up and running while keeping everyone safe and healthy, which we are grateful for.

If you happen to be enjoying a glass of wine here or there during this time, Leah would be very grateful if you would save the corks and only when things are open again, drop them off at the marina as a donation for the Survivor’s Abreast Dragon Boat team.

As you’ve likely seen, we have set up a mailing list in order to keep in touch with all of our customers. So far, our posts and emails have included the same content and we recognize that it may be redundant for some of you. As we move in to boat season, we may use email to communicate other relevant information directly with customers. Please consider subscribing here so that you receive all updates from us.

We appreciate your patience as we navigate the new parameters we have to work within so that we can all enjoy a good season on the water soon!

Mother Nature has sure been keeping us on our toes hasn’t she?!  Friday was supposed to be warm and sunny, and at times it was snowing so hard we couldn’t see the sandbar!  Saturday was sunny and mid-teens.  Maybe she’s getting a bit stir crazy (or bored) like some of us probably are and sees it as entertainment.

Another week has come and gone very quickly it seems, and unfortunately not a whole lot has changed. The most recent update we have is that all emergency orders currently in place will remain until at least May 6th.  We hope that when things do start to gradually open, that we are in the early rounds and are able to get back to work so that you can enjoy the already short season on the water.

In an effort to keep in touch with everyone, we have been sending updates via email (2 so far) as well as continuing to post here and on facebook. We know that many of you get inundated with emails and we promise not to bombard you, but if you wish to receive them and haven’t yet, you can easily sign up here.  Please feel free to share this with anyone you feel may be interested.

We are still choosing the optimistic path and are happy to take your boat requests and get you in the queue.  Leah is replying to every boat request, so if you have already emailed us and haven’t heard back, it likely got lost in cyber space somewhere. Please re-send the original email and she will put you in the lineup and reply confirming receipt. Don’t be afraid to double check!

If you’re missing the cottage or just need something else to peruse, Cottage Life Magazine is offering free access to the current digital edition, inviting everyone to escape to the cottage with them even if only for a few minutes. Enjoy!

This is a tough time for everybody. We are so grateful to everyone on the front lines of this and appreciate every unimaginable sacrifice you are making. Several times now we have seen the analogy that we are all in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Very true. Please take time to take care of yourselves, to check in with family and friends, and to help your neighbours.

Stay safe & healthy everyone!

We hope you are enjoying the sunshine today, and it looks to be a beautiful week ahead (after tomorrow). We wanted to provide you with a quick update on where things stand for the marina opening.  At this time, we have to remain closed and do not know when we will be able to open up the shop or the store.  Due to the government mandate, all of our employees were temporarily laid off in March, which means no work is happening in the shop or in service. The snowball effect of this means that once we are given the go ahead to bring staff back in to work and get the shop and yard moving again, it is going to take time for us to get boats out. As much as we wish it would magically happen overnight, that’s just not the case and we appreciate your understanding as we enter that phase (hopefully sooner than later!).

Among so many things that are in place to keep people safe, one of those things is a complete fire ban.  Please keep that in mind as you are out doing yard clean up, or ready to relax for the afternoon. Our volunteer firefighters really appreciate it!

We also want to share with you that swimming lessons for this summer have been cancelled, but first aid courses will resume once restrictions have been lifted. If you have any questions about these programs, please contact Lori Harper loriharper1808@gmail.com

Our thoughts are with everyone in Nova Scotia today. Keep staying safe and healthy and we sincerely hope to see you soon!
